Legal name of company

The legal name is the name used to register your business.

The legal name of a company appears in the articles of incorporation and on contracts and invoices. It can be a name that was personally selected (e.g. Smith Enterprises Inc.) or a number assigned by the Registraire des Entreprises (e.g. 1234-5678 Quebec Inc.).

The legal name of a sole proprietorship operated by a natural person is the first and last name of that person (e.g. John Smith).

The BN is the nine-digit account number used for identification purposes by federal, provincial and municipal governments. This number is used to open a program account (payroll deduction, corporation income tax) or communicate with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Provincial: Identification Number

The Identification Number is a ten-digit number assigned to a business by Revenu Quebec when it is registered for:

- QST

- Withholding tax

- Income tax for corporations

- IFTA

Not to be confused with the Quebec Enterprise Number (NEQ).
